Sassari, Pharmaceutical Botany Collection

The Historical Herbarium of the Department of Medicinal Sciences, consisting of about 9,000 specimens, includes sets relating to the flora of Sardinia, Sarawak, Madagascar and medicinal plants. The samples were collected - until recent years - around the first nucleus catalogued in 1876 by Maurizio Reviglio, professor of Materia Medica and Rector of the University of Sassari. In 1914, the collection of Piedmontese Flora del Reviglio was transferred to the University of Turin, obtaining in exchange a duplicate of the important Moris Herbarium. This is a set of 1692 samples collected in Sardinia by the scholar and his students starting in 1815 (Rhamnus Alathernus, n. 275) and especially around 1825. Over time, various sets of plants and fruits in formalin, drugs have also been collected within the Department, etc. Since the end of the 19th century, equipment and instruments for research and teaching, models and drawings have also been collected, in addition to the significant set of paper documentation that includes the Inventory of the disappeared Botanical Garden in Via Paoli.
