Sanluri, Bread Museum

Sanluri, Bread Museum

Sanluri, Bread Museum

A few meters from the Town Hall, the Villasanta house, which once housed the oil mill, now houses the Civraxu Bread and Bakery Museum, inaugurated in 2017, which aims to preserve and pass on over time the ancient customs related to the processing of typical Sanlura bread.
In fact, there is a long story behind “Civraxu”, the durum wheat bread typical of the town of Sanluri and spread all over the southern regions of Sardinia. Its origins seem to date back to 235 BC, the year in which numerous Roman legions arrived on the island who wanted to conquer it, overcoming the resistance of the same Sardinians and the Carthaginians who then dominated it.
The five chronological sections through which the narrative is developed aim to make visitors “experience” the taste and flavor of Civraxu. The Museum tells the history of the product since ancient times, starting from the processing of the earth and then passing through the various phases of baking, with an always attentive look at the traditions of the past.
The three phases of kneading, leavening and cooking are treated with an almost scientific methodology, bringing the final product, bread, as an object for display.

Why it's important to visit it
Visiting the Bread Museum means having an extraordinary sensory experience that tells the art of bread processing since ancient times.
