Benetutti, Monte Maone Dolmen

The dolmen is isolated in a rural area.
Maone's tomb is a mixed-type dolmenic burial, that is to say partly carved into the rock, partly built with granite boulders of different sizes arranged in irregular rows. The roof slab rests on these.
The monument (length m 3.5; width m 1.3) includes an anticell with a trapezoidal plan (width m 0.65/1.2; length m 0.87) oriented to S, and a rectangular chamber in plan (width m 1.3; length m 1.75; height m 1.90) now filled with earth.
It is not unlikely that the anticell, currently under the open sky, was originally covered by a plate superimposed on the closing plate.

History of studies
The monument has been known since the beginning of the last century.

How to get there
Leaving the town of Benetutti, follow the path that runs along two sides of the cemetery. About 2 km away, on the left, there is the entrance gate at the bottom called Maone. After crossing a steep hill, heading southeast, you arrive at the Angioy Coda farmhouse. On the right, in correspondence with this, behind the dry stone wall, is the Maone dolmen.
