“GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARY”

“GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARY”

“GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARY”

“Gospel According to Mary”, the third feature film by Cagliari director Paolo Zucca, is coming to screens all over Italy. The work is inspired by the homonymous novel, published in 1979, by the writer Barbara Alberti who, with Amedeo Pagani, also collaborated

in the drafting of the screenplay.

Performers such as Benedetta Porcaroli and Alessandro Gassmann are accompanied by many actors and figures who express themselves mostly in Sardinian.

The biblical story of Mary and Joseph was in fact entirely set in Sardinia, which for Zucca is Galilee in the year zero.

The suggestive scenery is very ancient and enchanted, such as the archaeological area of Tamuli (which has become Nazareth), the prenuragic Necropolis of Genna Salixi and the great Menhir of Su Corru Tundu at Villa Sant'Antonio, the tomb of the giants of Sa Domu and s'Orcu in Siddi, the Nuraghe of Santa Sarbàna in Silanus, the early Christian Church of San Giovanni di Sinis in Cabras, the Roman baths of Fordongianus, the ancient Roman bridge of Allai, the Romanesque Basilica of Santa Giusta, the bastion of Saint Remy in Cagliari. And again natural places of great landscape value such as the beautiful river and wooded area of Gadoni, the peak in the area of Elighes Uttiòsas in Santu Lussorgu, the Pèntuma quarry in Noragugume, the salt 'e Porcus salt

works in San Vero Milis.

plot
Maria is a young girl from Nazareth. As a woman, everything is forbidden for her, even learning to read and write. But she dreams of freedom and wisdom. At the synagogue, he gets excited about stories from the Bible, like Don Quixote with adventure novels. From the audacity of the prophets he learned disobedience, he dreams of running away on a donkey and discovering the world, going far away. He finds in Giuseppe a teacher and an accomplice. Their marriage is chaste, a screen, while he secretly instructs her to prepare her to flee. But here's an unexpected obstacle: Maria and Giuseppe fall in love. They are about to abandon themselves to passion, when the angel of the Annunciation ruins everything. God's plan and Mary's plan don't match at all
