Usellus, Santa Lucia Complex/Motrox 'e Bois

The archaeological area is located on the edge of the basaltic plateau of Santa Lucia, east of the Monte Arci massif, in central-eastern Sardinia.
The area includes two complex nuraghi with villages, located at a reciprocal distance of about 50 meters, and a tomb of giants. Of the two nuraghes, the westernmost one is probably the oldest; it must have been particularly grand, judging by the vastness of the rubble. In the collapse that covers the main tower, a “tholos” chamber of considerable height can be identified: on the profile of the environment, it is still possible to distinguish the summit part of the entrance gate with an angular section typical of archaic nuraghi.
The 'tholos' chamber of the western tower of the bastion is also intact. The nuraghe located to the east is also complex, but has a simpler layout, with a keep to which a secondary side tower has been added, now completely buried. The building, in better condition than the previous one, preserves the tower chamber, soaring, with some niches in the walls and the stairwell on the entrance. Around the monument you can see the remains of an extensive village. A tomb of giants (length 8.20 m; width 1.82 m; height 2.00 m) - with unusual construction characteristics - is attached to the nuraghi and the town just described: it is a burial with a rectangular corridor dug into the rock and equipped with limestone pavement.
The walls of the room are built with marl ashlars, originally connected with mud mortar, arranged in horizontal rows, which in the upper sector of the wall have an oblique visible face. On the other hand, there is no trace of the exedra hemicycle. Within the same housing context, a prehistoric settlement is documented - perhaps a workshop for the production of obsidian lithic instruments - which has returned numerous cores and processing waste.
The complex dates back to between 1400 and 1000 BC.
The village was still popular in Roman times.

History of excavations
The tomb of giants was excavated by Ercole Contu in the 1950s.

How to get there
The nuragic complex of Santa Lucia is located about a hundred meters north of the homonymous church, 3.5 kilometers northwest of the town of Usellus. You can get there comfortably by the paved municipal road, which crosses the homonymous plateau: a branch of a few hundred meters, unpaved but in the process of being arranged, leads to the church's churchyard.
