The CamUC — Casa Museo Cannas is a modern and functional contemporary art museum located in the heart of the historic center of Ulassai.
The museum is spread over two exhibition floors that house important works by Maria Lai and temporary exhibitions dedicated to contemporary art.
Alongside the exhibition spaces, the CamUC has multifunctional environments designed for cultural and educational activities: workshops, screenings, conferences and artistic residencies.
The architectural complex that constitutes the Casa Cannas, dating back to the early twentieth century, which today houses the: CAMUC, consists of a series of buildings that include, in addition to the main building, a set of small structures arranged around an internal courtyard, which make it the most articulated and impressive architectural complex in Ulassai.
The building was home to several businesses, managed by the owner's family, Massimo Cannas, as well as the post office. The two upper floors were used as a manor house, while in the basement there was a modern oil mill, an electric grain mill and a coal plant for the production of electricity built in 1924 that allowed the town, the first in the area, public and private lighting, and operated until 1934.
Purchased by the Municipality of Ulassai around the mid-nineties, today, after a careful restoration and redevelopment of the museum by the architecture firm LaiBe and engineer Paolo Depau, it has become a multipurpose cultural center that hosts exhibitions, conferences, workshops, workshops and projections.
