Suni, “Tiu Virgiliu” House of Peasant Technology Museum

Located in the heart of the old town, in the meeting of “Mesu Idda”, a short distance from the parish church, the house-museum represents a significant testimony of the peasant and artisan culture of the period between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
It is one of the few ancient houses in the town of Suni that still preserves its original architectural forms. Despite the simplicity of the objects on display and the moments of daily life reconstructed inside it, it represents a key to understanding the historical and social reality of the entire Planargia.
Named after “Tiu Virgiliu”, its last owner, the house-museum is divided into two floors and preserves over a thousand pieces, including objects and machinery, linked to the artisanal activities typical of the agro-pastoral world, which characterized the country's economy until the early fifties of the last century.
Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the activities of the mill and the crusher, as evidenced by the complex of machines that are still visible today. Also included are the installations of the blacksmith's and blacksmith's workshop, and those relating to the haymaking where the various agricultural and pastoral tools are kept. There is also space for the shoemaker's workshop, which is very rich in tools and the corner of the carding, spinning and weaving of wool and linen.
Another part of the house-museum houses rooms set up according to a domestic scenario, with a purely feminine vocation. Objects and pieces of furniture from the family circle are kept there. The contrast between the simplicity of the walls on the ground floor and the vivacity of colors on the upper floor, embellished by the floral decorations of the floor tiles, is remarkable.

Why it's important to visit it
The guided tour allows you to deepen a journey, where all the seasons with their tiring tasks find a moment of realistic representation. Among the most important pieces are the red vulcanite tub with the large granite stone that ground the olives, a richly decorated cast iron stove, decorated wrought-iron beds and “su pane de sos isposos”, wedding bread in the shape of a crown, with floral decorations, which was hung on the bed as a sign of prosperity.
