The museum consists of an archaeological section and the municipal art gallery.
The archaeological exhibition is the result of excavations and surface research conducted from 1994 to today and documents the settlement in the municipal territory from the recent Neolithic to the medieval age.
The finds come almost entirely from the municipal territory and through illustrative panels on the sites of origin, which accompany the visitor throughout the journey, the principle of not decontextualizing objects has been observed. The section dedicated to the excavations carried out on the Santa Itroxia nuraghe and on the protohistoric structures of Bruncu Mogumu, from which a jug and a bowl from the Orientalizing period come from, and of Papalinu, is particularly interesting. Also interesting is a terracotta figurine of the god Bes, from the Punic age, which brings back to votive and cultic contexts probably dedicated to healing deities. An epigraphic fragment, from the early medieval period, where San Saturnino is mentioned, instead offers a glimpse of the saints venerated in the rural agglomeration of Solanas (a hamlet of Sinnai) before the advent of the Vittorine monks in southern Sardinia. The municipal art gallery exhibits some pictorial works by artists operating mostly in the south-eastern Campidano from the 16th century to the contemporary age.
Why it is important to visit it
The visit allows you to reconstruct the overall picture of the settlement events that have characterized and marked the landscape of a large portion of the south-eastern Campidano of Cagliari. The highlight of the collection is the statuette of the god Bes.
