Seventh Saint Peter, Ark of Time

The Ark of Time is located at the foot of the Cuccuru Nuraxi hill, an archaeologically important site because it preserves the remains of a three-lobed nuraghe and a well temple from the Nuragic age. The location of the structure within an area still under excavation and study, allows users to interact with the reality of field research.
The Ark of Time is a historical multimedia museum, but it wants to be above all a center for experimentation on the teaching and dissemination of cultural, historical and archaeological heritage. The building is organized into functional areas.
Starting from the entrance, you will find the archaeological laboratory equipped with tables for the chemical-physical test, the recomposition and design of the finds, and equipped graphic workstations. The recreational and educational area, open to the garden, is dedicated to animations and laboratories, while in the archaeologists' garden, work is carried out to prepare the finds returned from the excavation: washing, the first cataloguing, the archiving.
The actual exhibition covers a chronological arc that goes from Neolithic to contemporary and makes use of an interactive multimedia rich in images, explorable three-dimensional reconstructions and reference texts divided into different levels of use. The landscapes, monuments and history of Cagliari and its vast area are illustrated: among others, Capo Sant'Elia, Monte Urpinu, Fort Sant'Ignazio, the Roman amphitheater, the walls and towers of Castello appear, represented according to the appearance they had to assume in the different historical phases. The multimedia can be used through individual stations, but it allows a collective and spectacular full immersion in the underground room, equipped with about 60 seats and a large screen with an arc of a circle of 14 meters x 2.
The multimedia contents are accompanied, in the exhibition gallery, by an educational itinerary that explores, through a series of panels, themes related to archaeological findings in the territory of Settimo San Pietro and that illustrates in depth the sacred well of Cuccuru Nuraxi, the cult of water and the other well temples in Sardinia. There are some windows containing archaeological finds found in the territory of Settimo San Pietro.

The Ark of Time is an innovative museum that offers an unprecedented and engaging vision of the territory and of the historical and archaeological monuments of the vast area of Cagliari, in its evolutionary aspects, thanks to the use of multimedia technologies.
