The museum is set up in the premises of the Confraternity's oratory, inside the branch church of Sant'Angelo, built in late Gothic ways in the 16th century, as revealed by the architectural forms of the façade, the acute arched portal and the ornamental battlements.
The exhibition itinerary is divided into thematic sections that include a series of precious furnishings, no longer used in liturgical functions, normally excluded from public viewing, which testify to how, over time, the pastoral needs of the Church have changed.
The collection, very rich, includes even small sculptures, statues, furnishings and sacred furnishings from the churches of the town. These are works closely linked to religious commitment and popular devotion, also
relevant from a historical and artistic point of view.
There is no shortage of beautiful silver objects of sacred art, including processional crosses, golden goblets and a bell tower with a navicella, as well as a collection of jewelry and bells, always in silver.
Among the most interesting works are two polychrome and gilded wooden statues, from the early seventeenth century, depicting the Guardian Angel and Saint Charles Borromeo, attributed to Neapolitan workshops, and two sculptural groups from about 1770.
In the sacred silverware sector, among the oldest pieces, the processional cross rich in figures and decorations, by the silversmith Antonio Giovanni Pixoni from the mid-16th century and an elegant gilded chalice in Renaissance style, stand out.
Why it's important to visit it
The Museum intends to enhance the important historical and artistic heritage that is no longer in common use and now abandoned, and above all to preserve it as a historical and social testimony.
The guided tour allows you to understand how the Church intends to restore the precise memory of cults and religious rites of the past, connected to the value of artistic and craft expressions developed especially in the local environment.
