The headquarters are inside the Duomo, in the Sacristy of the Beneficiaries and in the crypt of the church of San Michele. Vestments from the XIX-XX century, furnishings from different periods and some reliquaries, including that of San Sebastiano and San Biagio, are on display. There are also the gold of the Assumption, a small review of the shapes of the precious items used in Sassari from the 17th to the 19th century. Of particular value are the liturgical silver from the 17th to the 19th century and the beginning of the 19th century, the three Eburnean crucifixes from the mid-17th to the beginning of the 18th century and the impressive Rococo Eucharistic throne.
The exhibition is closed by some twentieth-century chalices, a gift from John Paul II, the monstrance of Archbishop Mazzotti, executed in 1948 on a design by Eugenio Tavolara, and the oil amphora, a gift from Archbishop Isgrò for the Jubilee 2000.
The journey continues in the Archivio Nuovo, from 1754, with silver furnishings, refined Italian and French vestments and embroidery from the 17th to the 19th century. The splendid silver astille cross, executed in 1767 by Salvatore Mamely from Cagliari, and the silver lamp by the Roman Giovacchino Belli, from 1824, stand out. The itinerary ends in the crypt of the Church of San Michele, where eight panels illustrate the history of the excavations, the evolution and history of the cathedral and the place where the church was built. On display are architectural elements from the Romanesque and Gothic phases of the building, tombstones, ceramic, vitreous and metallic finds, devotional objects and clothing items recovered during excavations.
Why it's important to visit it
The works on display “tell” moments of history, tradition and veneration. The highlight consists of the Treasury of the Duomo, with gold, liturgical silver and jewels of the Assumption (sec. XVI-XX).
