The museum is located in the premises of the Department of Land Engineering, Geopedology and Applied Geology Section of the University of Sassari. Various effusive and intrusive rocks from Sardinia and the rest of the world are on display; fossils from all over the world (“Clypeaster altus”, ammonites, trilobites, fossil fish, oysters); stratigraphies of mainly Sardinian soils; processed rocks used industrially and sand from Tunisia, Libya, Morocco and Sardinia; minerals from all over the world, with samples of good aesthetic and crystallographic value (from Sardinia phosgenites, salgemma, fluorite, covellite, silver from Sarrabus); finally, a historic collection of microscopes and synthetic crystals for educational use.
Why it is important to visit it
The collection has 1,000 pieces of mineralogical interest, 300 of the geological field, 200 of the paleontological field and various pedological profiles.
