Oschiri is located in Monte Acuto, near the Coghinas River. The territory, very varied from an environmental point of view, has returned archaeological traces of settlement continuity since prehistoric times. The church of Our Lady of Otti stands on a rural hill and was the parish church of the village of Octi, documented starting in 1462.
The building, oriented to N/E, is mononaval and made of volcanic stone of various shades. The façade, at the top of which stands a reconstructed bell tower, lacks the portal that opens into the S side, as well as the single-light windows, in number of two, with a double trumpet. Another window is placed in the apse.
History of studies
The historiography of the church of Our Lady of Otti is based on the entry 'Oschiri' (1845) by Vittorio Angius inserted in the 'Dictionary' by Goffredo Casalis; a few years later it was the contribution of Alberto Della Marmora (1868). Aldo Sari's 1981 article, three years after Francesco Amadu's work on the diocese of Castro (1984). From 1993 it is the fact sheet in Roberto Coroneo's volume on Romanesque architecture.
