The territory of the municipality of Nuxis, rich in evidence of anthropization since ancient times, is also distinguished by the presence of numerous natural caves and mining galleries.
In this particular historical and environmental context, in the town of Sa Marchesa, in the hamlet of Acquacadda, a wide-ranging museum-territorial site, unique in its kind, has been created: the Archaeological Site of Sa Marchesa.
The complex includes a museum area, a geominerary-naturalistic park and an easily accessible cave, which can be visited upon reservation.
The museum apparatus of Sa Marchesa explores and documents different disciplines — geology, paleontology, archeology and speleology — offering an integrated and scientifically based reading of the respective collections.
Through this multidisciplinary narrative, the visitor is accompanied on a fascinating journey through the history of our planet, with particular attention to the Sardinian territory: from geological origins, dating back hundreds of millions of years ago, to the origins and developments of the human presence, and finally to the contemporary era.
In addition to the exhibition areas and the Acquacadda Archaeological Cave, which can be visited with a guide, the site pays special attention to the new generations, welcoming students of all levels and offering them tailor-made educational, recreational and laboratory activities.
