The museum was founded with the dual purpose of collecting anthropological material that would illustrate the physical characteristics of the Sardinians from prehistory and protohistory, to current times, and to preserve aspects of cultural heritage.
The museum has a fundamental didactic-educational function, acting as a link between the community and the scientific world and offering study and research opportunities to lovers of both biological and cultural anthropology.
