Almost unique in its kind, the museum is dedicated to the famous Roman wreck and its cargo, recovered in the waters of the archipelago.
The ship, which was wrecked near the island of Spargi around 120 BC, was carrying a load of hundreds of wine amphorae and canteen vases made from Campania.
The finds of the ship's crew and crew provide interesting data on the organization of Roman naval trade, while the wreck constitutes a chronological cornerstone for the production and export of many classes of objects.
A central element of the layout is the full-scale reconstruction of the cross-section of Spargi's ship's hull, with 202 amphorae, which exemplifies the stowage system.
Also notable are the lead anchor logs and other materials, coming from the waters of the archipelago.
Why it is important to visit it
The visit allows us to verify how, between the 4th century BC and the 3rd century AD, the Bocche di Bonifacio were a privileged transit point for the routes connecting Italy with the western Mediterranean and North Africa.
