Fluminimaggiore, Licheri Ancient Ethnographic Museum

The Museum is located in the center of the town in the old watermill from 1750, made functional by the flow of the Riu Mannu river that crosses the area. The mill under which the river passes, which acts as a driving force to move the blades connected to the millstones, produced and can still produce wholemeal flour.
Thanks to the patient research and educational readjustment of the master Bruno Murtas, the artifacts on display are partly those found in the old mill and in Monte Granatico and partly the result of donations from the inhabitants of Fluminimaggiore, who have recognized in the museum the expression of their identity and their ancestors.
In the various rooms, the objects and tools that characterized the domestic and work environments of farmers, shepherds and small artisans are exhibited. In particular, you can appreciate the iron marks for the marking of animals, ancient instruments for measuring weights and liquids in wood, cork and iron, the tools for milking and for the production of cheese, all the farmer's tools, the tools for weaving and for preparing bread, the furniture and some pieces of women's equipment, the toys for children and the tools of the blacksmith, the shoemaker, the carpenter. During the visit, the methods of using the objects on display and their names are also explained in the local language.

Why it's important to visit it
It's one of the few occasions when you can see directly how wheat was ground with mechanisms that exploited the forces of nature. Through teaching aids, which reproduce the original pieces, they can experiment with some tools, including the mechanical drill, and some ancient games. The guided tour allows you to deepen your knowledge of the traditions, history and cultural identity of Sardinia and in particular of Fluminimaggiore, who found in the river the source of his wealth, but also the discomfort compared to a force that is not always controllable. The oxcart and buggy from the end of the nineteenth century, kept intact, are interesting.
