Dorgali, Civic Archaeological Museum

The Museum is dedicated to archaeological evidence from various locations in the Dorgalese territory.
The oldest settlements, dating back to the 3rd millennium BC, are represented by obsidian and flint tools.
Very important for the history of this territory are the materials of the nuragic village of Serra Orrios with the “megaron-shaped” temples: steatite casting matrices for the forging of bronze spearheads, lamps, pinstaderes and terracotta vases. Other sites contribute to outlining the picture of the material life of the Nuragic civilization through the exhibition of ceramics, jewelry in bronze and vitreous paste, copper panels.
Even the caves of the Dorgalese area have returned traces of ancient human habitation, as evidenced by silver, vitreous paste and bronze jewelry from the Phoenician age, found more than 100 meters deep in the abyss of the Virgins of the cave of Ispinigoli.
Of particular interest are the underwater findings along the coast very popular with Roman ships, including amphorae, lead anchors, elements of ship planking, lead ingots. The copy of the bronze diploma of the Sardinian mercenary Tunila, who fought under the banner of the imperial army, also dates back to Roman times.
The Middle Ages are also represented by some finds.

Why it's important to visit it
The museum offers a clear representation of the ancient history of Sardinia and in particular of the territory of Dorgali. The highlight is the coin collection.
