Cagliari, Scano Palace

The building is located on an irregular C-shaped plan at the top of the steep Via Pola on the corner with Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
The project, commissioned by the engineer Stanislao Scano to his nephew Flavio, was completed in 1933, after a partial revision of the external decoration. For this building, the Scano used the collaboration of the Ferrobeton company, which made it possible to build the first private building project entirely in reinforced concrete in Cagliari.
The building combines a simplification of volumes and modern-style structures with a repertoire of decorative Art Deco images.
The main façade on Corso Vittorio Emanuele has a slightly advanced central parallelepiped and two symmetrical side blocks, on four and three levels, respectively. In the central body there is the entrance with a stuccoed concrete panel depicting, in relief, fantastic animals launched in a race. Above, three long arches contain windows with parapets decorated with maritime motifs and four urns, resting on the frame that delimits the first floor.
A semi-cylindrical body with four smooth half-columns at the base resolves the angle, showing additional decorations, taken more sober even on the sloping side of Via Pola.
