Villa Binaghi was built between 1925 and 1930 by the engineer Roberto Binaghi, commissioned by Angelo Binaghi. The intervention was divided into two distinct bodies: the first overlooking Viale Trento, the second in correspondence with Via Cesare Battisti. The garden, conceived as a space of ornamental relevance and representation, helped to emphasize the monumental nature of the villa and to shield the complex from the surrounding urban fabric. In 1984, the villa and garden became state property and were used as headquarters of the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the metropolitan city of Cagliari and the provinces of Oristano and Southern Sardinia. On this occasion, adaptation and restoration interventions were carried out that preserved the original typological characteristics and consolidated the institutional function of the complex.
The garden of Villa Binaghi is a green space belonging to the historic villa and is configured as a representative ornamental garden, intended to accompany the private residence. The shape of the green is functional to the enhancement of the buildings: the monumental front on Viale Trento is embellished by the presence of trees and hedges that frame the architectural perspective; the side of Via Cesare Battisti preserves more secluded spaces, linked to the original function of a domestic garden. The affected green area is configured as a wooded lawn, in which borders, hedges and shrub areas help to shape an articulated vegetation structure.

Interesting aspects
The garden of Villa Binaghi stands out for its role as a scenographic setting for the buildings designed by Roberto Binaghi, in which the monumental architectural language finds a vegetable counterpoint with a strong visual impact. A characterizing element are the large specimens of ficus, arranged along the front of Viale Trento, which overlook the street, creating a green backdrop with a remarkable perspective effect. These trees frame in particular the monumental external staircase, which connects the different levels of the villa, reinforcing the scenographic perception of the main façade.
