The Giuseppe Siotto Foundation garden is attached to Palazzo Siotto. Located in the Castello district of Cagliari, it represents an example of a private nineteenth-century urban garden. The building was built around 1850 and later renovated in 1927 on a design by the engineer Giacomo Crespi. In 1920, the building was purchased by the Siotto family, who used it as a city residence. The property also included a garden, designed as a space for representation and recreation, in line with the trends of the time. With the founding of the “Giuseppe Siotto” Historical Institute in 1990, the building became the seat of the Foundation, which has maintained and enhanced the garden as an integral part of the building's historical and cultural heritage. The garden, small in size and enclosed within the walls of the building, is an example of an urban courtyard garden typical of 19th century noble residences. The configuration is simple and collected, with a formal layout of the spaces and a predominant ornamental function. The ground is partly paved and partly paved with dirt, with flower beds bordered by stone curbs. A staircase leads to a balcony intended for green space with numerous ornamental and aromatic species. The plant system is mainly composed of ornamental and aromatic species, arranged in perimeter flower beds and along the main path. Today the garden, although not permanently accessible, is open to the public for cultural events, concerts and commemorations organized by the Foundation. Its current function is therefore twofold: on the one hand it retains the character of an ornamental private space, and on the other it plays an active role as a place of memory and civic participation.
