The campus is located in the town of Sa Illetta, just outside the city of Cagliari, surrounded by the water of the Santa Gilla lagoon and by ancient olive trees on a large flat surface.
The set of buildings, designed by the Milan-based studio Arassociates, is based on the aggregation of repeated in-line bodies connected to each other by courts, which contribute to forming a single building complex. The buildings are built with walls or portions of the wall in the N/S direction, inside which large windows are open interspersed with full parts, corresponding to the service areas on each floor. The external materials - red vulcanite and Orosei marble - refer to the Sardinian tradition, but are used according to modern techniques to facilitate their maintenance.
All the buildings are connected to the ground floor by an open porch that forms the main axis of the building complex, while the spaces between the buildings are marked by different types of courtyards: some have porches, others are arranged in gardens, even with water, or are still paved and designed as small internal squares.
The nodal center of the campus is represented by the entrance building that houses the foyer and an auditorium for 200 people, accompanied by two symmetrical bodies intended for offices and meeting rooms. In the outermost part of the campus, on the other hand, are the buildings reserved for functional and operational purposes.
Inside and outside there are numerous works of art by contemporary artists, including the sculptures of Costantino Nivola and the interventions of Maria Lai.
