Armungia, Ethnographic Museum “Sa Domu de is Ainas”

The Ethnographic Museum “Sa Domu de is Ainas” (The House of Work Tools) is part of the Armungia Museum System, with the Blacksmith's Shop, the “Emilio and Joyce Lussu” Historical Museum and the Nuraghe Armungia.
Set up in the spaces of the old town hall, built in the mid-19th century on the site historically dedicated to the Church of San Giovanni, the museum reconstructs the universe of peasant and pastoral culture expressed over the centuries by the Gerrei communities. The exhibition consists of work tools, fabrics, everyday objects, vintage photos, illustrations, testimonials and insights. The itinerary is divided into thematic sections, dedicated to clothing, women's work, agriculture, iron crafts and the territory. The Clothing Room exhibits tailor-made reproductions of men's and women's clothing from the last twenty years of the nineteenth century, as well as authentic fabrics from the period and jewels, documenting the way the Armungesi dressed starting from the descriptions given by Abbot Vittorio Angius in the Angius-Casalis dictionary (1833). The Women's Work Room is dedicated to activities such as linen and wool processing, weaving and baking. The Agriculture Room is characterized by the presence of the agrarian calendar, which illustrates the different phases of land work in relation to the main types of crops - wheat, barley, fava beans and vines - with the display of the tools corresponding to the phases to which they refer. The Iron Crafts Room is dedicated to the work of the blacksmith (“on Ferreri”) and refers to the blacksmith shop, which can be visited through a route that from the museum winds through the paths of the historic center. The Territory Room illustrates activities such as herding, hunting, fishing and the production of charcoal, also focusing on the description of the typical housing types of the country.
The main exhibition structure is connected to the “minimal houses”, three small stone houses whose spaces house a weaving workshop and a multimedia section, with films on baking, weaving, iron forging and herding. The museum is located a short distance from the Nuraghe Armungia, and thus also constitutes the access structure for visiting the archaeological site.

Why it is important to visit it
The museum allows you to penetrate the depths of an agro-pastoral community in inland Sardinia, exploring its daily life and value system. It houses a collection of about 600 objects, which belonged to the population of Armungia, collected by the group of girls that created the first exhibition inaugurated on December 4, 1982.
