Alghero, Roman bridge

The bridge, located between Fertilia and Alghero, has allowed the crossing of the confluence between the Calich pond and the sea for thousands of years.
Infrastructure of the western Roman road “to Tibula Sulcis”, connected the centers of Nure and Carbia and more generally the centers of Nurra with those of Bosano.
It underwent radical restorations during the Middle Ages, but the foundations of the Roman piles remain.
It originally developed on 24 arches, 10 of which, or almost the entire S half of the bridge, were destroyed in the 1930s during the works to clear the pond.

History of excavations
The bridge has not been the subject of archaeological excavation.

How to get
There From the SS 131 near Sassari, take the road to Alghero until the junction with the SS 127 bis. Continue to the entrance of the city and then in the direction of Fertilia-Porto Conte. The Roman bridge can be reached from the Calich pond.
