The new authors of Sardinian literature

In recent years, there has been a flourishing of literary works in Sardinia, especially crime fiction and noir. This production has also experienced some notoriety in the peninsula.

Among the best-known names is that of Marcello Fois, a writer from Nuoro by birth who lives today in Bologna. We should remember the noir written at the beginning of his career, namely “Recent Iron” and the successful series of novels that star the lawyer-investigator Bustianu, inspired by the figure of Sebastiano Satta. Giorgio Todde writes crime stories set in a small nineteenth-century Sardinian reality, or in a disturbing city of our time.

Also in terms of genre fiction, Salvatore Niffoi and Luciano Marrocu can be mentioned. Among the crime writers, the winner of the 2000 edition of the Calvino Prize, Flavio Soriga, is also making his way. Francesco Abate, journalist and DJ, with his novels catapults us into everyday life, where even in stories that seem simple and familiar to us, we can never take anything for granted.

Quite different is the nature of the essay that made the cultural environments of the island a noise. This is the volume “The Columns of Hercules”, an editorial success in recent years, in which Sergio Frau not only proposes that Sardinia is connected with the myth of Atlantis (or rather, with the island of Atlante, as he himself defines it), but also opens - through a series of research stimuli - a real investigation into Sardinian protohistory.
