Carnival in Sardinia has a thousand fascinating faces. The ancient one of the suggestive Barbarian carnivals that - with their ancestral anthropomorphic and zoomorphic masks, the robes of goat skins, orbs and cowbells - recall mysterious rites, propitiatory dances and a close relationship between man and animal. The vibrant one of horseback carnivals, such as that of Oristano (“Sa Sartiglia”), during which the knights must put a metal star on the run, a hope for a good harvest, and that of Santulusorgi (“Sa Carrela 'e nanti”) in which the knights show their value, courage and skill, challenging themselves in reckless races through the city center.
