Carnival in Sardinia

Carnival in Sardinia has a thousand fascinating faces. The ancient one of the suggestive Barbarian carnivals that - with their ancestral anthropomorphic and zoomorphic masks, the robes of goat skins, orbs and cowbells - recall mysterious rites, propitiatory dances and a close relationship between man and animal. The vibrant one of horseback carnivals, such as that of Oristano (“Sa Sartiglia”), during which the knights must put a metal star on the run, a hope for a good harvest, and that of Santulusorgi (“Sa Carrela 'e nanti”) in which the knights show their value, courage and skill, challenging themselves in reckless races through the city center. Or the irreverent one in Tempio with the puppet of King George being tried and burned in the square, without forgetting the symbolism of Bosa's

disguises.
