Seulo, Nuraghe Su Nuraxi 'e Pauli

Seulo, Nuraghe Su Nuraxi 'e Pauli

Seulo, Nuraghe Su Nuraxi 'e Pauli

The building is located in the town of Pauli, on top of a rocky relief that slopes towards the Medau river, in Barbagia di Seulo, in central Sardinia.
The monument was excavated and restored in 1995 by the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Sassari and Nuoro, under the coordination of Mauro Perra. The nuraghe is a single-tower building built with irregular rows of shale blocks.
The tower, fruncated conical (diameter 10.20 m; height 7.00 m; wall thickness 2.20/2.45 m), has a conspicuous structural decline on the south side that reaches from the entrance to the soaring, also affecting part of the “tholos”.
From the entrance, oriented to the south/south-east and missing the lintel, there is access to an inward opening (length m 3.40; width m 1.00/1.40), with partially remaining ogive cover. On the left side of the corridor, there is access to the entrance staircase with a flat roof, of which three blocks remain. The right side shows a rectangular niche (length m 1.70; width m 0.70; height m 1.67) coaxial with the scale. The opening leads into the central chamber with a circular plan (diameter m 4.00 x m 4.50). The room has two niches: the first, open on the right side, is semicircular (width m 1.40; depth m 0.75; height m about 3.00); the second, larger, opens on the left side, in the masonry below the entrance staircase and shows a helical plan with a sloping roof towards the bottom (length m 5.10; width m 0.90; maximum height m 3.00).
The nuraghe dates back to 1600-1000 BC.

How to get
from Seulo, exit in the direction of Gadoni; after about 1 km, turn left on the municipal road to the sports field, and immediately after the latter, turn left again on another municipal road. It is followed for about 800 meters, until it runs along the ground where the nuraghe stands, about 100 meters to the left of the road.
