Macomer, Nuraghe Succoronis

Macomer, Nuraghe Succoronis

Macomer, Nuraghe Succoronis

The nuraghe is located on a trachytic outcrop, in the Marghine region, in central-northern Sardinia.
The building is a single-tower that preserves the room, accessible through an entrance with a staircase and a niche, and equipped with three subsidiary rooms.
The tower (diameter 14.20 m; height 1/1.80 m) is built in the lower rows with large blocks; these are superimposed on smaller boulders, carefully finished and installed on regular horizontal courses.
On the external masonry, you can see some light sockets, triangular or quadrangular, arranged almost in a spiral.
The trapezoidal entrance (width 1.10/0.90 m; height 2.50 m) - oriented to SE and surmounted by a lintel (length 1.97 m; thickness 0.80 m) with an exhaust window - leads into an inward corridor (length 4.80 m; width 1.10/1.60 m; height 3.30 m) covered by flat slabs.
On the s side of the entrance, the trapezoidal entrance (width 1.10/1.50 m; height 3.70 m) of the spiral staircase that led to the upper floor opens. The connecting compartment (width 0.90/1.10 m; height 3/3.30 m) preserves a dozen detectable steps (height 0.20/0.25 m; average tread 0.70 m) and has five trapezoidal slots arranged at a regular distance.
Faced with the staircase is the opening of the polygonal niche (depth 1.80 m; width 1.30/1.60 m; height 3.45 m) with a roof formed by the extension of one of the corridor's slabs.
A trapezoidal entrance (width m 1.70; height m 3) enters the central environment (diameter 4.60/4.40 m; height 6.60 m) with the roof still intact.
The walls, unlike what is documented in the outer wall of the tower, have a less well-maintained wall texture that makes use of numerous reinforcing wedges.
The room has three niches arranged in a cross, polygonal in shape (niche s.: depth m 2; width m 1.30/0.60; height m 2.60; coaxial niche at the entrance of the room: depth m 1.80; width m 1.20/0.50; width m 1.20/0.50; height m 2.75; niche d.: depth m 1.50; width m 1.30; height m 2.80.
When you stand out, it is difficult to identify the remains of a superior environment.
A short distance from the Nuraghe, a domus de janas has been excavated.

History of excavations
The Nuraghe is known since the Taramelli explorations.
