Cagliari, MUACC - University Museum of Contemporary Arts and Culture

The MUACC - University Museum for Contemporary Arts and Cultures - is a new cultural institution within the University of Cagliari, dedicated to the conservation, promotion and enhancement of the historical and artistic heritage of the contemporary University.
With a particularly suggestive landscape view, the spaces of the Museum occupy the ground floor and the first floor of a valuable building in the historic center, in the heart of the Castello District: the Palazzo dei Marchesi di Quirra, also known as Palazzo Cugia or Palazzo Nieddu, named after the owners who succeeded over the centuries, in the part of the building on Via Santa Croce, adjacent to Via Corte d'Appello.
The mission of the MUACC, based on a vocation for research, in a horizon that embraces the principles established by ICOM and the values expressed in the Magna Charta Universitatum pursues the dissemination of knowledge through exhibition, educational and third mission activities.
The fundamental objectives are defined in the light of a concept of the University that is increasingly at the service of the community, of its sustainable development and presuppose the essential role of the museum institution in the processes of growth and social change, in an inclusive, accessible and multicultural sense.

Why it's important to visit it
Currently, the works donated to the University of Cagliari by the artist Italo Antico (1934) are set up in museum spaces, who distinguished himself in the late twentieth century for his extremely coherent research, which finds in stainless steel sculpture the privileged and distinctive expressive figure.
With ancient steel, he has faced countless variations of a method, as Gillo Dorfles noted since the Seventies, aimed at exploring the potential of line and sign, fixing the moments and what they contain, transfiguring them into a perpetual tension of nature towards the universal and the absolute. Thanks to the artist's donation and the commitment of the University, the most representative ancient sculptures - exhibited together with a selected corpus of paintings, jewels and textile artifacts - today constitute a great wealth available tothe community.
