Part of the museum collection is located in a building in the style Liberty, dating back to the early twentieth century, built by the then doctor who led the town, Dr. Raimondo Loi.
The building, located in the very central Via Roma, constitutes, with its vaults and frescoed walls, a beautiful testimony of an elegant home of the time. Before hosting the museum, it was the headquarters of the Monteponi Mining Company and then, from the thirties, of the Municipality.
The museum is structured in four thematic areas: one part houses the archaeological section that exposes the testimonies of the past that, from the Nuragic age, have come down to us. Among the items, an hourglass mill and a collection of coins that goes from the Punic to the Savoy period.
A significant part of the history of Seui is linked to the anthracite mine that is located a short distance from the town. Along the way, it is possible to visit the exhibition part with the miner's work items, which allow him to reconstruct his harsh living conditions. The itinerary is completed by the section that sees the recovery of all the documents, booklets, journals and maps, which belonged to the historical mining archive of the Iglesias.
The Fundu and Corongiu buildings and the Nurzula lavery are still the most significant examples of the Seuese industrial past, which involved hundreds of men, women and children for over a century.
Finally, we arrive at the civic section with a large number of photos that portray characters and glimpses of the town, a very rich archive and the reconstruction of an authentic notary office, furnished exactly as it was in the nineteenth century.
Why it is important to visit it
The guided tour allows you to deepen your knowledge of the historical, archaeological and mining resources in the most important center of Barbagia di Seulo, which have earned it the nickname of a widespread museum.
The museum houses many objects from the nearby anthracite mine and in particular the most significant piece is the first still built in Sardinia, with the serial number 0001.
