San Gavino Monreale, Due Fonderie Museum and Documentation Center

The Due Fonderie Museum is located inside the former railway warehouses, once a hub for the raw material that, from the Montevecchio mine, was brought to the industrial plant of San Gavino Monreale for processing.
Officially inaugurated on April 20, 2013 at the behest of the Municipal Administration, the Museum and Documentation Center owes its name to the history of the old Villacidro foundry and the modern San Gavino Monreale foundry.
The goal is to create a constantly evolving museum that, in addition to preserving the immense legacy left in the territory by metallurgical activity, also becomes an attractive pole capable of documenting the history of the local population, protagonist of the transition from an agro-pastoral community to an industrialized reality.
The Due Fonderie Museum aims to collect, safeguard and transmit to the new generations the rich cultural, material and intangible heritage of the San Gavino Monreale foundry and the old Villacidro foundry, documenting the history of the communities through oral testimonies, objects, writings and images related to life and work in the factory.
The museum houses an exhibition that includes recorded oral testimonies, objects and documents related to life and work in the factory, donated by citizens and by the foundry itself. There is also a screening area dedicated to viewing and listening to the testimonies of the museum's archive, including films, documentaries and interviews.

The structure is dedicated to all lovers of history and industrial archeology, to those who have or still play any role in the history of the foundry, but above all to young people who, with this museum, will have valuable tools to learn about and better understand the last eighty years of our history, with its profound historical, economic and social transformations.

Information on tickets and access: Currently, the museum can only be visited by reservation, by calling the number of the Municipal Office for Culture, Entertainment and Sport in advance +39 070 93749205, or by writing to the email monumentisangavino@gmail.com. The municipality of San Gavino Monreale is organizing itself to be able to guarantee, in the short term, the opening of the structure with defined and stable weekly hours. There is currently no information available on any tickets and their amount.
