Sadali, Barbagia Water Ecomuseum

The Barbagia di Sadali Water Ecomuseum is located in the geographical area of Southern Barbagia. It is an integrated system of natural and environmental cultural resources and involves the population in its establishment, which actively contributes to the research, conservation and enhancement of cultural and natural heritage.
The Ecomuseum is not a well-defined physical place, but an expression of life in what is the daily life of the inhabitants in an environment that intertwines nature, culture and traditions; spaces and places to visit, communication of their history and identity, it aims to make local peculiarities understood as daily activities known and bring out in the eyes of visitors the local peculiarities understood as daily activities through direct contact.
The ecomuseal itineraries are divided into two different geographical areas, one linked to the urban context and the other linked to the suburban context: in the urban environment, the itineraries called: “The waterways” and “Panoramas and glimpses” have been identified.
The fulcrum of these itineraries is the suggestive San Valentino Waterfall, 7 meters high, it is the only one in Sardinia to be located inside a town and, together with the charming historic center full of springs and fountains, has contributed to Sadali's entry into the prestigious circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
Three other nature itineraries are identified in the suburban area: “The path of the charcoal workers”, “The path of the fairies” and “Scala De Nigola.
These itineraries, located in a karst environment and immersed in dense vegetation rich in endemism and Mediterranean scrub, are places where even today there are signs of anthropization and activity from the recent past with the presence of lime kilns, used until the 1970s for the production of environmentally friendly material for the construction of houses, charcoal yards and shepherds' settlements with the presence of huts.
In the large forest there are karst highlights: the natural monument of the Cascata de 'Su stampu de su turnu' and, the mysterious Cave 'Is Janaas'.
The Coop guides. “The Three Fairies” are available all year round for guided tours in the Sadalese territory and in the historic center, allowing you to learn in depth the peculiarities of these pristine and wild landscapes.

Because it is important to visit
Sadali, it offers a fresh break from the hectic life to which we are used to, it is a panacea for the spirit and the mind: crossing the narrow streets of the historic center through the ancient neighborhoods accompanied by the only sound of water and then feeling small in front of the wonderful Valentine's Day waterfall that flows through the houses, letting yourself be enchanted by the magic of the Fairy Caves, breathing the scents of juniper and thyme in the oak forest from which the sunlight filters to get there up to the natural monument of “Su stampu de su turnu” are sensations that are difficult to forget. It is the main reason why those who see Sadali once almost always return and almost always leave us a piece of heart.
