The diocesan museum was created in 2016 to preserve, document and above all enhance the vast heritage of sacred art belonging to the diocese of Oristano.
It covers an area of over a thousand square meters and inside there are several rooms that house permanent and temporary collections. The Saint Pius X Room houses liturgical furniture, sacred vestments and precious ritual elements that go from the Middle Ages to the modern age. Among the works, we remember in particular the dossal Madonna with Child and Saints, from the end of the 13th century, probably the first gold-based work to come to Sardinia that testifies to the Tuscan Gothic culture inspired by Franciscan culture; it houses the Liturgical Codes section of the Cathedral of Santa Maria, which houses some dating back to the end of 1200 that present some miniatures of both individual figures and historical initials.
Another permanent collection is the collection of more than 500 ceramic pieces from Tharros, belonging to the heritage of the Archbishop's Seminary.
Finally, the Exhibition Gallery, the Aula Magna and the Mythos Room are dedicated to temporary exhibitions aimed at highlighting above all the new narratives expressed by contemporary art.
The Diocesan Arborense Museum, through initiatives and events, aims to bring the public closer to the knowledge and spiritual beauty of art.

Why it is important to visit it
there are many points of historical and artistic interest: from the 17th-19th century wooden statuary, to the modern silver and vestments from the Cathedral, to the exhibition space dedicated to the patron of the Archdiocese of Oristano: Sant'Archelao.
