The Documentation and Study Center on Sartiglia is located on the ground floor of the “Palazzo Sanna”, a municipal structure intended for the activities of the Oristano Foundation.
The museum allows you to discover the history of Sartiglia, the carnival equestrian ride, from its genesis to the transformations that occurred over time.
The exhibition area includes several sections. The itinerary shows some relics of the carousel, its protagonists and historical documents. The itinerary is enriched by a multimedia itinerary with video and audio: it starts with the presentation of the Gremi, the ancient historical depository institutions of Sartiglia, to the Componidoris, from the race for the star to the race for the pairs, passing through the colors and sounds of the carousel.
A special section is dedicated to rosettes and their preparation, while an installation disseminates the rhythms of running throughout the Documentation Center, recalling the role and sounds of drummers and trumpeters.
Why it is important to visit it
The Center for Documentation and Study on Sartiglia, in collaboration with the Municipal Historical Archive of Oristano and numerous other archives, has promoted research as well as the cataloguing of all the documents that testify to the Oristano race, but not only.
He also collects testimonies that recall the editions of Sartiglia and the numerous ring races held in the cities of Cagliari, Sassari and Iglesias, documented on the occasion of important festivities and celebrations in seventeenth-century Sardinia.
