Nurallao, Tomb of Giants by Aiodda

The monument is located on the plateau of Planu Is Ciaexius, in the Sarcidano region of central-southern Sardinia.
The megalithic tomb of Aiodda, which follows the classic structure of giant tombs, was discovered during agricultural work. The entrance, facing E, is preceded by the large semicircular exedra with orthostatic limestone plates, about 6 m wide. At the center of the exedra are the remains of the curved stele broken transversely broken, at the base of which a rectangular door opens with large side recesses.
The hatch leads into the burial cell about 10 m long and preceded by a narrow entrance corridor bordered by orthostatic plates. The walls of the cell are made of rows of cast stones, the original roof had an ovival section. The plant is reminiscent of the Balearic 'navetas'. During the excavation, several Chalcolithic menhir statues were found, with typical symbolic motifs carved in relief: inverted human beings, in an “anchoriform” or “candlestick” pattern, whether or not equipped with a dagger. One of the menhir statues, particularly well preserved, constitutes one of the orthostats of the short entrance hall of the tomb.
The burial dates back to Medium-Recent Bronze.

History of excavations
It was excavated in 1974 by Enrico Atzeni.

How to get there
Take the SS 197 Nuragus- Nurallao in the direction of this last center, on the outskirts of which, on the right, you take a cart that goes up a slope to the megalithic tomb.
