The MonteArci GeoMuseum was set up in the premises of the former Convent of the Capuchin Fathers of Masullas, a monumental monastic structure dating back to the mid-17th century.
The GeoMuseum is dedicated to Monte Arci, its minerals and rocks, in which an ancient and complex geological history is written, told through palaeoenvironmental reconstructions and numerous finds.
It starts with a brief excursion on the formation of the lands that emerged worldwide, and then arrives at the formation of the Mediterranean, in whose center of gravity today is Sardinia, and in whose interior the Arci volcano was born.
It is possible to admire minerals and rocks of rare beauty, products of the geological events that occurred in Masullas and in the current territory of Monte Arci starting from about 20 million to 1.8 million years ago. There are examples of fossils that describe forms of life and environments that existed in the past in this area, fluorescent minerals and dioramas, which reproduce with scientific rigor the activity of the Arci volcano.
Why is it important to visit it
Because for the first time, the geological history of Sardinia has been reconstructed, from which enviable natural and landscape beauties derive.
No less important is the setting of the Convent of the Capuchin Friars, in which the GeoMuseum was set up, in homage to the work carried out by religious in monasteries, for cultural and scientific development, starting from the Middle Ages.
