Calasetta, Museum of Contemporary Art

It is set up inside the municipal slaughterhouse, which has been in disrepair for over forty years and renovated for this purpose. It was curated by Ermanno Leinardi (1933-2006), an important Sardinian artist who co-founded in 1966 (with Italo Utzeri, Ugo Ugo and Tonino Casula) the Transational Group (aniconic experiments that united Sardinian artistic research with that which was taking place in the rest of Europe). The collection, created by Ermanno himself through exchanges with other artists, reflects most of the artistic trends that developed in Europe in the 60-70s of the twentieth century. Other works were added later. The exhibition is divided into two floors. On the ground floor there is a room that contains the collection concerning constructivist art, while another adjoining room contains the works of abstract art. The balcony that runs lengthwise to the museum allows you to admire a series of large-format works that wind about 6 m above the ground. A skylight floods the entire complex with daylight, allowing the works to be read from different perspectives. Of particular value is the section of “constructivist” works, especially French (Michel Seuphor, Sonia Delaunay, Jean Leppien, Aurelie Nemours, Yves Popet, J.F. Dubreuil, Henri Prosi, Claude Pasquer, Charles Bezie, and many others), but the Italian artists present are also prestigious (Giuseppe Capogrossi, Lucio Fontana, Bice Lazzari, Mauro Reggiani, Mario Radice, Luigi Veronesi, Piero Dorazio, Paolo Minoli, Ermanno Leinardi, Achille Pace, Achille Pace, Nicola Pace, Carrino, and many others).

Information on tickets and access: The full 4.00 euro ticket, which can be purchased directly at the entrance, entitles you to a visit to the permanent collection and to a possible temporary exhibition. During the annual “Open Monuments” festival, admission is free for all visitors.
