The Museum is housed in the rooms of a house that reproduces the ancient local architecture, characterized by the granite porch and stairs, the wooden floor and ceiling. It is located in a secluded corner of the town, in the ancient district of Monte Mannu, a few steps from the parish church. It offers a precious journey through memory through work tools from other times, objects from the daily life of shepherds, farmers, artisans and housewives.
A part of the exhibition, divided into two floors, is dedicated to the baking cycle, an activity entrusted to women, who provided for the production of “carasau bread”, which represented the greatest source of livelihood for farmers and shepherds.
Utensils of different shapes, plows, sickles, and a majestic cart recall the hard work of shepherds and farmers.
Other spaces are reserved for shoemakers and blacksmiths with the exhibition of forgotten tools that show the rhythms and customs of the artisans of the past.
An important space is dedicated to feminine art par excellence, the weaving of blankets, here called “ sas vrassatas ”. These blankets were the result of patient and discreet work by expert hands, accustomed to the labors of the horizontal frame.
Another part of the house-museum re-proposes the family's living area, where it is possible to appreciate all those objects and pieces of furniture that suggest a more familiar use. In fact, there are faithful reproductions of an ancient living room, the so-called 'Istanzia 'e Vonu', of the kitchen and the bedroom.
Why it's important to visit it
Particularly important is the exhibition of an ancient vertical loom that was used for weaving traditional blankets, “sas vrassatas Bittese”.
