The museum of sacred art, inaugurated in 2009, is located on the second and third floors of the former Tridentine Seminary, a nineteenth-century building renovated at the beginning of the 21st century. Born thanks to the will of Msgr. Antonino Orrù, it welcomes the treasures coming mostly from the cathedral, but there are rare pieces from the other parishes of the diocese.
Why is it important to visit it
The Diocesan Museum of Ales has recently been further embellished with other works of art. Four 16th - 18th century bells that belonged to the cathedral of Ales and two lions carved in stone from the 17th century. The four bells, which operated until the 90s, were removed and replaced, with the current ones, during that decade. The four prestigious bells, cast during the various episcopates, are today a testimony of the taste and refinement of the Bishops who commissioned them and the artisans who created them. The oldest bell among the four on display at the Museum was cast in 1573, made by the master Pietro Tolo or Tolu.
