The S'Omo 'e sa Majarza Museum (“The Witch's House”), in the headquarters of the renovated old Town Hall, is dedicated to witchcraft, the devil and fantastic beings from the legends of Sardinia.
A fascinating topic, treated with seriousness and accuracy. In-depth historical research has made it possible to focus the graphic choice on woodcuts of witches and devils, dated between the 14th and 16th centuries, which emotionally involve the visitor and introduce him to the world of popular beliefs and the most terrible curses.
The museum itinerary, unique of its kind in Sardinia and one of the few in Italy, starts from the deities of the dead of the Romans, reaches the Inquisition and the “Malleus Maleficarum”, the book published in 1486 that will become the guide in all witchcraft interrogations. The “Malleus” provided the theological basis for the cruelest tortures that led to the death of thousands of innocent people, especially women, accused of witchcraft and evil.
Inside the museum, visitors have the opportunity to take a sort of space-time journey that will lead them to a suggestive dimension of ancient stories, stories of “janas” (mythical beings from the Sardinian tradition), goblins, devils and witches in a crescent of magic, charm and mystery.
The museum houses amulets and lucky charms against the evil eye, potions and spells against various diseases and ills such as 'sa mixina de s'ogu' and 'sos fattuggios'. In a corner, we then discover the disturbing figure of 'sa Filonzana', a woman dressed in black who holds a spindle in her hands and who symbolizes the thin thread of life that can break at any moment.

Why it's important to visit it
Among the museum's most suggestive proposals is the reconstruction of the cave of a 16th century Sardinian witch, Julia Carta di Siligo, held captive between 1596 and 1606 and subjected to torture in the prisons of the Inquisition of Sassari. It is also kept “su carru de sos” which, in ancient popular beliefs, creaked forward to carry the souls of the dead. Since the cart could only be seen by those who had to die within the year, it was terrifying to even utter its name.
