Villasimius, Archaeological Museum

The museum is located in a nineteenth-century rural house and collects archaeological evidence from the territory of Villasimius from the Nuragic Age to the Middle Ages.
A room is dedicated to the sanctuary in the settlement of Cuccureddus, a landing place that took an active part in commercial exchanges from the Phoenician period to late antiquity. The finds come from the temple environments but are also evidence of the daily life of the local inhabitants. Among the artifacts from the Roman era, terracotta exvots stand out, which reproduce the faces of the deities and the anatomical parts of the bidders.
Of particular interest is the exhibition dedicated to underwater discoveries along the coast of Villasimius. Some cannons and part of the cargo from the wreck of the Isola dei Cavoli, a Spanish ship wrecked around the 15th century, are on display. The ship, bound for Campania or Sicily, carried “azulejo”, tiles with a characteristic white and blue enamel coating.
Other underwater discoveries are also illustrated with the reconstructions of the original environments of the finds relating to Phoenician and Punic ships and to loads of Roman and Vandalic vessels.

Why it's important to visit it
It's a territorial museum that values underwater discoveries in particular. The highlights are the materials of the Isola dei Cavoli wreck and the reproduction of an underwater excavation.
