Villanova Monteleone, Palatu and its Islands

The building is located below the main road that crosses the town, not far from the market. On the ground floor there is the “Sa Domo Manna” Ethnographic Museum.
It was built between 1890 and 1920 on a design by the engineer Achille Dettori, after two proposals by Eugenio Sironi (1871) and Salvatore Calvia (1889), rejected because they were too expensive. However, at that time and in a small town like Villanova Monteleone, the presence of a building used as a school wedding was significant. After the restoration carried out between 1996 and 1998, today it has the function of a cultural and exhibition center. It houses, on the ground floor, the Sa Domo Manna Ethnographic Museum.
The unique construction has solid and compact shapes and, taking advantage of the difference in height of the terrain, goes from two to three floors, underlining the base with a high plinth of red trachyte. Bichromatic red and gray bands strongly characterize the building, using a neo-medieval language, which recalls the bicolor of Romanesque architecture in Sardinia. The windows develop regularly and symmetrically and are all arched like the entrance portals.
