The museum, which is located in the former Monte Granatico, a late nineteenth-century building located near the beautiful Aragonese church of Santa Giulia, is dedicated to the archaeological evidence of the municipal territory.
A first section presents Neolithic finds of the Ozieri culture, the graphic-photographic reproductions of Nuragic finds from Padria, but preserved at the national archaeological museums of Cagliari and Sassari (two ships and a bronze archer), the model of the territory.
Of particular interest and of a certain artistic value is the votive deposit found on the site of San Giuseppe, which must refer to the Roman center of Gurulis Vetus. The deposit, dated between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD, includes anatomical terracotta, animals, fruits, and human figurines.
There is a collection of Punico-Roman finds owned by the Municipality: the vases with black paint, the 'thymiateria' with the head of the goddess' kernophoros', the ointments, the cinerary urns and the lamps are remarkable.
Some panels illustrate the remains of the Roman city of Gurulis Vetus: bridges and a local road connected to a road network connecting the west coast of the island and the innermost Logudoro.
Why is it important to visit it
A particular reason of interest is the collection of earthenware from the votive style of Saint Joseph.
