Nuoro, Palazzo delle Poste e Telegraphi

Nuoro, Palazzo delle Poste e Telegraphi

Nuoro, Palazzo delle Poste e Telegraphi

It is located at the junction between the ancient city and the upstream expansion that occurred during the years of Fascism.
The Palazzo delle Poste e Telegrafi is the first building inaugurated after the establishment of the province of Nuoro (1927), designed by Angiolo Mazzoni, official of the Ministry of Communications and author of numerous postal buildings and stations throughout Italy.
The construction stands out first of all for its massive appearance and in particular for the volume of the tower, in gray granite with red vulcanite joints, connected to the central body through the entrance porch. This is dominated by windows interspersed with reliefs (once littori beams) and by a decorative band still in red vulcanite, where a lion in relief is accompanied by stylized masks.
Today, the building lacks the left side, demolished in the sixties to build an anonymous building, which erased the courtyard, which also presented some of the most interesting architectural solutions in the portal and in the decorations.
The remodeled interior has been adapted to the needs of today's work.
