Martis, Church of San Pantaleo

Martis, Church of San Pantaleo

Martis, Church of San Pantaleo

The church of San Pantaleo is located on the immediate rural outskirts of the town. The toponym has been documented since 1341.
The church of San Pantaleo in Martis represents the most complete and coherent example of the Gothic-Italian language, transplanted to Sardinia before the Aragonese conquest spread that of the Gothic-Catalan workers. There is no documentary information about the factory, which can be traced back to the first quarter of the 14th century due to its formal characteristics.
The plan has three naves divided by pillars, with an E-shaped apse. The walls are made of medium-sized limestone ashlars. The three aisles are turned to a cruise. On the façade, there is a large rose window in line with the portal.

History of studies
The church is mentioned by Vittorio Angius (1842) and by Dionigi Scano (1907). The first historical-artistic framework was given by Raffaello Delogu (1953), while the most updated sheet is by Roberto Coroneo (1993).
