The area of the archaeological park is located in Pranu Muttedu, an extensive sandstone and schist platform in Gerrei, a region of south-eastern Sardinia. The excavations extend into a lush cork grove.
The archaeological area of Pranu Muttedu represents one of the most suggestive and important funerary areas in prehistoric Sardinia. There are the tombs of Pranu Muttedu and Nuraxeddu, exceptionally surrounded by large groups of menhirs and round buildings of probable sacral character. On the rock of Genna Accas there is the homonymous hypogeic necropolis at Domus de Janas, with three grave circles.
The monotorre nuraghe, on the other hand, is located on a plateau that slopes into the valleys of S'Utturu and S'Idda in the SE and of Pala and Nuraxi and Riu Uvìni in N-NO.
History of excavations
The site was excavated several times by Enrico Atzeni, starting in 1980.
