Cagliari, Accardo Palace

The building occupies the corner between Largo Carlo Felice and Via Crispi close to the rear front of the Town Hall and is one of the most representative of the construction activity of the time of Mayor Ottone Bacaredda.
Built between 1899 and 1901 on a design by the engineer Dionigi Scano, it stands out for the series of arches that form the openings on the ground floor, filmed in axis by the windows of the three levels above, each with a rich decorative apparatus and with balconies that are partly protruding, partly flush with the façade. Both facades are covered vertically by banded pilasters with an ionic capital, which become more evident and important when connecting the corner. The decorative band underneath the protruding frame, made of terracotta with ovals, denticles and female figures, is particularly rich. Of particular interest is the link between different materials such as stone, cement and terracotta.
