The Museum is located in Corso Vittorio Emanuele, in the area called “Sa Piatta”, in a nineteenth-century building. The building, on three floors, is the result of the merging of several houses and, with its frescoed vaults and furnishings, is a beautiful testimony of a bourgeois home in the historic center of Bosano.
The exhibition is structured in three thematic environments: one part hosts the setting up of temporary exhibitions on Bosan customs, customs and traditions. Another part includes the so-called piano nobile, an authentic stately apartment that remained exactly as it was in the nineteenth century.
The centerpiece of the museum itinerary is the permanent exhibition of Melkiorre Melis' artistic production. Through this collection, we have an understanding of the production of the most important and eclectic Bosano painter, who includes, in addition to paintings, also artifacts of various inspirations.
There are numerous works on display, as the artist has dedicated himself to the creation of furniture, objects and ceramics, and they also include the African period. His Libyan experience as director of the School of Indigenous Arts and Crafts in Tripoli had in fact allowed him to renew his production based on primitivist suggestions and the affinities between these and the artistic production of Sardinia.
Why it's important to visit it
The guided tour allows you to deepen your knowledge of the historical and artistic resources present in the Bosano territory but, above all, it allows you to learn about the enormous Melissian production that, embracing the multiple expressions of art, will distinguish Melis from other contemporary Sardinian artists.
