The Archaeological Museum of Alghero was created to acquire, preserve and communicate the historical, social and cultural memory of the city.
The collection preserves finds that can be traced back to the first human settlements in the area, from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages, discovered during urban excavations and outside the town.
The traces of the past define the identity of the city and highlight the role of Alghero over the centuries, in Sardinia and in the Mediterranean.
Why it is important to visit it
Through faithful and suggestive environmental reconstructions with authentic finds, the museum offers an unprecedented and privileged vision even of places that can no longer be physically enjoyed, but which are still today the subject of archaeological and anthropological studies and research.
The layout of the MŪSA restores the image of the Catalan city and its inhabitants in an itinerary that unfolds in three thematic sections organized according to a chronological order, three different but complementary perspectives: The Sea, the Ways of Living and the World of the Sacred. The itinerary is divided into the two floors of the historic building that houses the museum, in the heart of the Ancient City.
