Cuglieri was chosen as the seat of the Seminary both because of its central position on the island and because of the presence of the basilica dedicated to Our Lady of the Snow, which is still very popular with many faithful.
The activity of the Cuglieri Seminary, which also housed the Pontifical Theological Faculty, developed until 1971, when the Jesuits renounced its management and the institution was transferred to Cagliari. The building now belongs to the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and some rooms are currently occupied by the offices of the Mountain Community of Montiferru.
Designed in 1925 by the engineer Giuseppe Momo (author of the Regional Seminars of Assisi, Fano and Molfetta), the building was inaugurated in 1927 and is spread over three floors in four quadrangled bodies, on a central arcaded courtyard, to which the chapel on the O side stands out. The bell tower of the Seminary stands out from the compact mass of the building by its particular cusp
crowning with five spires. The entire series of buildings has neo-Romanesque forms, referring to the numerous medieval architecture of Sardinia, even in the interiors. These include large and very bright classrooms, a large library, a physics cabinet, an earthy chemistry laboratory, the Aula Magna with a coffered ceiling, and the chapel. The latter has two-color walls, with exposed beams, and is decorated with geometric patterns by the painter Isidoro Delogu.
The wall structures are entirely made of andesite and basalt, treated with ashlar.
